Risk Assessment (Health and Safety)
Risk assessment is simply a careful examination of what, in your work area (whether it be at the office or onsite) that could cause harm to you or people around you, so that you can weigh up whether you have taken sufficient precautions to allow you to work safely in a safe environment.
A risk assessment is an important step in protecting you and CFTS.CO, as well as complying with the law. It helps us focus on the risks that really matter in our workplace or on a project site, the ones with the potential to cause real harm.
In many instances, straightforward measures can readily control risks, for example ensuring spillages are cleaned up promptly so people do not slip, or cables are made safe to ensure people do not trip or ensuring your wear the right kind of work clothing such are hard hats and steel toe caped shoe when on a construction site.
Below is a sample risk form.
| What are the hazards / risks involved? | Who might be harmed and how. | What can you do now to reduce or remove the hazard? | Do you need anything else to manage the risk? | Do you need to escalate this for further action, if so to whom. | |

This is not the only way to do a risk assessment, there are other methods that work well, particularly for more complex risks and circumstances, consult with management for more information.
Any risks and their solutions should be well documented for future reference; in all cases your immediate team leader or manager should be kept fully informed.
