Dismissal
Dismissal is the most serious disciplinary action and is only used in situations where an employee has committed a serious breach of company rules or has been convicted of a criminal offence.
What this means
In these cases, the employment relationship may be ended immediately and without notice.
Examples of serious violations may include:
- Theft
- Fighting or physical aggression
- Deliberate damage to company property
- Other actions that seriously harm the organisation or its employees
Suspension
In some situations, an employee may be suspended while a matter is investigated.
Suspension may occur when:
- an employee has repeatedly ignored formal warnings
- a serious complaint or incident is under investigation
- criminal charges relating to the workplace are pending
Suspension may be with full pay, partial pay, or without pay depending on the circumstances and management decision.
